Project Introduction


Aurea Energy has engineered a utility-scale 1MW / 2MWh Hybrid Energy Storage System for a commercial client in Bulgaria. This system integrates a 1,008kWp solar PV array with a 2,007kWh LFP battery energy storage system through 2 × MEG 500K hybrid inverters, delivering a complete behind-the-meter solution for peak shaving, self-consumption, and grid support.

The system operates on a hybrid architecture with a DC/AC ratio of 1.1, maximising equipment utilisation. The PV array feeds power through 2 × 500KW inverters while the 2MWh battery system stores excess solar generation for discharge during peak tariff periods. With an estimated annual generation of 1,943MWh and a payback period of less than 4 years, this installation delivers both energy independence and compelling financial returns for Bulgarian commercial energy users.

PV Module — N-Type Bifacial

The 720W N-Type bifacial modules feature SMBB technology for improved light trapping and current collection. With Hot 2.0 technology for superior LID/LETID resistance and bifacial gain of 5–25%, these tier-1 panels deliver significantly lower LCOE. Certified to withstand 2,400 Pa wind load and 5,400 Pa snow load.

Inverter — MEG 500K Hybrid

The MEG 500K is a modular-design hybrid inverter with independent DC/DC and DC/AC modules for easy maintenance. Each unit supports 500KW rated power (550KW max), 12 MPPT channels across 24 strings, and parallel connection of up to 4 units for 2MW total capacity. Integrated PV/MPPT/transformer/STS with 100% unbalanced load support and flexible control strategy configuration.

Battery System

The 2,007kWh LFP battery system consists of 10 clusters, each containing 14 × 51.2V 280AH modules in a 716.8V configuration with self-designed BMS. Key features include:

The EMS charges the 2MWh battery from the grid during low-tariff periods and discharges stored energy during peak-tariff hours. This price arbitrage strategy, combined with the 1,008kWp PV array, dramatically reduces grid demand charges and total electricity costs — achieving a sub-4-year payback.

    Solar Self-Consumption Maximisation During daylight hours, the 1MW PV array powers the connected loads directly. Excess solar generation is stored in the 2MWh battery rather than exported at low feed-in tariffs. Stored energy is discharged during evening peak demand periods, minimising grid imports when electricity is most expensive. The DC/AC ratio of 1.1 ensures optimal system utilisation throughout the day.
